Seeds of Citizens’ Community Initiatives and AKB Cheer-leading

At the time, I was working and living in South Africa; the day was 6 February 2010, and a coincidence of a phone call to a friend led to an unforgettable meeting with the Late Aleke K. Banda (AKB). One of two unforgettable meetings that we had in the last three months of his life.

It was in Sandton, Gauteng, South Africa where he and his wife were lodging at the time. We had a very fruitful discussion where we covered a lot of areas. Paramount in our discussion were The Future of Malawi, his and my commitment to our country Malawi and my quest to mobilize people from my home area of Thondwe, Zomba to implement initiatives aimed at transforming the communities in our area.

One Generation to NEXT

One Generation to NEXT

AKB shared details of and lessons learned from his own initiatives in his home area and encouraged me on my quest for my own area. One of the goals for our initiatives is to use them to inspire those who never thought of doing their small initiatives, or individual or collective causes for their own area as a way of developing our country at large from community level. Thus Citizens’ Community Initiatives facilitated by sons and daughters from each area using every resource at their disposal, including technology; no matter where they might be residing across the globe. I am glad that so far in our area of Thondwe Zomba, we have had significant tangible progress on several fronts especially in youth empowerment and education. It is my hope that with more people from my area, we will join hands to bring new ones or further our current initiatives for the development and transformation of our area, and that others will be inspired to do the same in other areas across our beautiful country, Malawi.

Yes You Can. One Community at a Time.

Let’s Do This!

God Bless Malawi.
